As a women-owned small business (WOSB), High Impact Partners (HIP) is an advocate for a holistic approach to work-life balance which is why we encourage positive and proactive action in self-care and overall well-being.

Each October, our nation promotes Breast Cancer Awareness Month, remembering the men, women, and families affected by breast cancer. This year, we show our support by recognizing the amazing work of a woman who transformed her pain into purpose by making an impact on the lives others who’ve experienced similar pain.

Laura Crandon, founder of Touch4Life found herself on the journey to healing after learning she had developed breast cancer. With no family history of the condition and no answers as to why or how, she joined an alarming statistic that states 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer in their life. Women of color are, unfortunately, 72% more likely to be diagnosed with breast cancer before age 50.

From her journey in awareness and inspiration to others emerged the nonprofit organization, Touch4Life. “The reality is that for women of color, early detection may mean avoiding a first time late-stage diagnosis,” Crandon says. “Three main points about this I want to share: an annual well-woman exam is key; screening should be based on each person’s risk factors; and thirdly, the importance of regular self-exams.”

Crandon advocates for the significance of breast cancer education. The Touch4Life website includes tools that assist in self-awareness, like an online survey, self-assessment quizzes, and how-to videos. A downloadable brochure will also be available at Touch4Life.org, where you can contact Laura about organizing health fairs and wellness workshops for your employees.

HIP salutes Laura Crandon and Touch4Life for the amazing work in raising awareness for breast cancer. Visit the Touch4Life website and invest in your health today!
